Upcoming Bollywood Releases

Release date :23rd May 2014
Genre :Romance ,Action
Starring : Tiger Shroff, Kriti Sanon
Directed By : Sabbir Khan

The first upcoming release is Heropanti starring Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon

Some jokes are doing rounds on social networking sites about Tiger shroff, the most hilarious one being that you can convert tiger shroff into kareena kapoor in 3 Steps.

tigershroffA four picture frame which shows the first picture of a smiling Tiger shroff, the second pic shows him in a wavy long hair wig, the third picture depicts applying mascara on him and in the fourth picture we have a smiling kareena kapoor.

Tiger shroff is the new generation metrosexual man who looks more beautiful than handsome

There is a certain femininity that has already been attached to him.

Star kids launch pads are usually mindless action films and heropanti seems to be one of them

The ‘Whistle Baja’ song has Tiger shroff jumping in the air and catching a flute mid way in the air and the song starts “ Mere naal tu whistle baja” and there is the nostalgic whistling from the movie Hero (1984)  starring Jackie shroff and Meenakshi Sheshadri.

From my point of view Tiger shroff should not have relied to cash-in on his father’s reputation or chosen to have references to his hit movie. This usually leads to disaster and undue comparisons between father and son.

Tiger looks very good on screen and Kriti sanon too has very strong screen presence. It will be an entertaining action flick with all bollywood masala packed in. Do not go expecting anything more than that. In the trailers, Tiger’s dialogue delivery is poor and he does not have the raw appeal his father had.

He still has a long way to go and we are not writing him off. The release of this film was postponed by a week to avoid releasing it on the day of election results and hence i expect the film to average business and serve as a decent launch for Tiger shroff.

citylightsCity Lights

Release date : 30th May 2014
Genre : Drama
Starring : Rajkummar Rao , Patralekha
Directed By : Hansal Mehta

The latest singing sensation Arijit Singh has sung a song in CityLights which is currently running on all radio stations and music channels  in India “ Muskurane ki wajah tum ho” .it shows a happy family  and the tagline of the film says “ How far will you go for the love of your family ?”. it is about a farmer and his family that moves from Rajasthan to Mumbai but faces the hardships of living in a big city.

I guess we all could identify with this story, as we have all moved to this city of Hong Kong and are still struggling to cope with the vivid lifestyle of this city.

The Lead actor Rajkummar Rao is riding high on the success of his critically acclaimed film Shahid (2013) and an important part he played in Queen (2014).

It is a Mukesh Bhatt Production and the stalwart Mahesh Bhatt has spoken very highly of Rajkummar Rao calling him the best actor in the current generation on Koffee with Karan and asking the world to watch out for him.

It is directed by Hansal Mehta who directed Shahid (2013) ,

Go expecting an arty flick, it would not be as entertaining as a typical bollywood film, but it would be a quality film which would evoke the right amount of emotions in you.

This again might just do average business as masses usually prefer action comedies like Ready, Dabbang and Chennai Express which have superstars in them.

City Lights and Rajkummar Rao may not appeal to them.

Release Date : 6th June 2014
Genre : Action, Thriller
Starring : Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha, Freddy Daruwala
Directed by: A.R.Murgadoss

With the Tagline “A Soldier is never off duty” it promises to be a brilliant action film

Akshay Kumar never disappoints, with his immaculate comic timing, brilliant skills with stunts and stylish herogiri.

Holiday would have more to offer as there is new villain in Freddy Daruwala who looks very promising in the movie trailers.

Another aspect is Govinda, who would be appearing in a character role as a senior army officer in this movie..Govinda has now accepted to do character roles in films, and it would be wonderful to see an actor of his calibre in various character roles in more upcoming films.

Sonakshi Sinha plays a boxing champion, and she looks the part when she punches in the trailer

The Song “Tu hi to hai Khayaal mera” has already topped the charts in music applications like Saavn

Do not go for this movie expecting any logic, the plot has terrorism, sleeper cells and lots of action in it.

The verbal dialouge between Akshay Kumar and Freddy Daruwala is stylish and arouses interest in watching the film. It is the remake of a Tamil Action film named Thupakki and hence it will be entertaining but at the same time there would not be scope for any logic and critical evaluation.

This may turn out to be hit considering the fact that action comedies are currently the flavour of the masses and all the 200 crore films recently have been action comedies.

Releasing 6th June 2014
Genre : Comedy
Starring : Sharib Hashmi, Inaamulhaq
Directed By : Nitin Kakkar

This film has been critically praised and got noticed at film festivals. it has also received a national award for best feature film at the 60th National film awards held in 2012.

The Plot is set in Pakistan where a struggling Indian actor who has gone to shoot a documentary with an American crew gets stuck and is held captive by Pakistani soldiers.

This laugh riot shows how Hindi films connect the culture of Indians and Pakistanis.

It shows two individuals from each side of the border one Indian and one Pakistani bonding over Hindi films mouthing the famous dialogues which are made immortal by the Bollywood film actors.

A must watch if you are looking for a feed good film to laugh and feel good about bollywood

It may again go unnoticed in the theatres considering the fact that there are no big stars in this and it has not been very widely promoted.

Release date : 13th June 2014
Genre: Comedy
Starring : Jimmy Shergill, Vijender Singh, Arif Lamba
Directed By :Kabir Sadanand

This promises to be a breezy youthful comedy drama film with a positive message. The famous Indian Olympics boxing champion Vijender Singh makes his bollywood debut in this film alongside seasoned actor Jimmy Shergill in the lead.

Salman Khan and Akshay kumar feature in the film’s promotional video song “ Yeh Fugly fugly kya hai” jumping up and down with Vijender singh and other young actors namely Arif Lamba and Kiara Advani.

The Music video looks very glamorous, modish and is very well shot.

Arif Lamba has appeared in movies Slumdog Millionare and Prague before

Kiara Advani, the lead actress looks very alluring and beautiful.

Kabir Sadanand has said that it is a fast paced social thriller with layers of comedy that will leave a very strong social message.

Fugly may well be a good entertainer is what seems from the trailers and the promotions.

Jimmy shergill is a brilliant performer, he has always done justice to any role he gets and in this movie he plays a corrupt policeman who holds up these young boys for instigating a fight with him. Recent impressive films starring Jimmy Shergill in important roles were Special Chabbis (2013) and Bullet Raja (2014).

Vijender Singh says his dialogues well and has good screen presence is what we can say from the trailers so far. He looks very elegant and smart.

This film may do well as movies with youngsters are really doing well

humshakalsRelease Date :20th June 2014
Starring : Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Ram Kapoor
Directed by : Sajid Khan

Sajid Khan has always churned out whacky comedies which leave us in splits. True to his own nature he really goes over the top but makes us really laugh out loud.

Heyy Babyy(2007),  Housefull (2010), Housefull2 (2012) and  Himmatwala (2013) have so far been laugh riots.

This time he comes up with Humshakals(2014)  where he brings us three of everything.

Three Saif Ali Khans, Three Riteish Deshmukhs and Three Ram Kapoors.

This definitely calls for loads of excitement and entertainment.

Do not go to watch this movie with your brains intact. You need to be as whacky and insane as sajid khan to be able to enjoy his movies to the fullest.

Saif Ali Khan has always had a fantastic comic timing and all his romantic comedies have always has done well .the most recent ones being Cocktail (2012) and Go Goa Gone (2013).

Riteish Deshmukh has also found lots of success in the genre of comedy .He usually plays the second lead but does manage to make you laugh. His recent comedies that did well were ‘Kya Super  Cool Hain Hum(2012) and Grand Masti (2013).

Ram Kapoor has been brilliant recently in Mere Dad Ki Maruti (2013) and Shaadi Ke Side Effects(2014).

Sajid Khan has always managed an ensemble cast really well with all actors getting the right amount of screen space and then cooks up the movie like a biryani with all the right ingredients to make you roll on the floor laughing.

Humshakals may be a blockbuster considering all these elements.

Ek Villianek-villian

Release Date : 27th June 2014
Genre : Psychological Thriller
Starring : Siddharth Malhotra, Shraddha Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh
Director : Mohit Suri

This is my favourite genre in movies.

Hindi films rarely do justice to this genre

But the trailers of this film look very promising.

The music is fantastic with songs like “ Jaise Banjare ko ghar” and “ Teri Galiyan Galiyan” that are beautifully composed and sung.

Riteish Deshmukh in a negative character is what makes me curious about this film and even Siddharth Malhotra is also cited to be a villian.

Bollywood has not delved into the dark before and touched completely negative characters without having a single positive character.

Only one director who has touched this genre before has been Anuraag Kashyap but he has had too many problems in releasing his dark films which are usually filled with negative characters.

Mohit Suri is the director here and he is riding high on the success of last year’s hit romantic musical Aashiqui 2 .

Shraddha Kapoor looks very pretty and gives me the glimpses of Padmini Kolhapure from time to time

Siddharth Malhotra is a decent actor and he had a decent Hasee toh Phasee (2014) to his credit early this year.

This one has to be seen and this genre has to be promoted

I am sure we all like Psychological thrillers; they give us a high when the suspense slowly unfolds.

Overall this month promises to have some really good releases from Hindi Cinema and a lot of variety is on offer and you can choose the movie to watch depending on that day’s mood.
